  10. I just installed a new 33.6 modem (generic) with USR's chipset.

  12. There are a few problems; can someone diagnose them for me?

  14. Every minute there's a 35 second delay where anything I type isn't sent. 
  15. Then at the end of the delay, everything goes at once.  Could this be a
  16. retraining period?  It seems to delay just as often as it doesn't.

  18. Anytime text scrolls fast, it turns to garbage until the scrolling ends.  
  19.  
  20. When a line is busy, the modem doesn't send a BUSY result.  It just keeps
  21. the DTR up till the user hits ESC.

  23. The technician I bought it from says I have poor phone lines, but I never
  24. had these problems with the old 14.4.

  26. Is it the modem or the phone line?  I'm tempted to return the modem.
